DNS Setup on the FRITZ!Box
Configure once – every device benefits.
When the router handles DNS resolution, the configuration applies to every device on LAN and Wi-Fi. DNS-over-TLS can also be enabled on top.
DNS Server Credentials
IPv4 Addresses
Classic DNS servers for IPv4 configuration.
IPv6 Addresses
Native IPv6 reachability of the resolvers.
DNS-over-TLS (DoT)
Hostname for encrypted resolution over port 853.
Configure DNS servers
Requires login to the web interface at http://fritz.box.
Open http://fritz.box in your browser and log in with the FRITZ!Box password.
Internet → Account information → DNS server. If the entry is missing, enable Advanced view in the settings.

Choose Use other DNSv4/DNSv6 servers and enter the following addresses:
Save with Apply. The FRITZ!Box switches resolution immediately.
Enable DNS-over-TLS (FRITZ!OS 7.20+)
Enables encrypted resolution for the entire home network.
In the same menu enable Encrypted name resolution on the Internet (DNS over TLS).

Under Resolution names for DNS over TLS add the hostname:
Confirm with Apply.
Troubleshooting
Renew DHCP lease
Devices only receive the new DNS servers after renewing the DHCP lease or restarting.
DoT fallback
If DoT fails, the FRITZ!Box automatically falls back to unencrypted DNS.
